Journal Reflection Module 4: 21st Century

Reflection Prompt:
Reflect on your thinking surrounding your developing a philosophy of Instructional Technology use for learning and your understanding of 21st Century Teaching and Learning

Description:
The Handbook of Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPCK) for Educators. Was a text that clearly stated the framework of how teachers need to include all three parts to form an effective lesson or project. ISTE's TEchnology Faciliation and Leadership Standards ( What Every K-12 Leader Should Know and Be Able To Do) This text explained the standards, gave additional websites and legal, social and ethical issues surrounding technology. The National Educational Technology Standards for Teachers and The National Educational Technology Standards for Students both give the standdards and learning environment that they'll take place in and how to adapt and get started.

Impact:

As I read through the materials and saw videos, I was impressed at how large of an equity gap needs to be filled in the large urban areas. Many of these students only have access at school. Not many go to libraries and their game systems are theonly things that are linked to the internet. I also remember reading that it's not the device or the program but how they are implemented that makes the biggest difference. This supports the idea that teacher needs tomake sure that the technology is needed and what types. When including TPCK, teachers knowing their content areas and strategies, pedagagy, to teach it is important. Many special needs teachers lack this part. The third knowledge to add is

Intent:

The chapter that has made me pause to think is on copyright enfringements and how much copy machines are working away in schools. There always is a reason but does that make it right. Socially, we need to stop cyberbully by posting the legal charts and informing students about the law. Continuing with the legal aspect of security and safety, students think that they are safe on the internet because they can't be seen and they use fake names. This misconception needs to be proven false. Students don't watch their user names and passwords which they freely give out or make to simple. We need to find a way to educate them about these. Students think that they know how to use programs andthe internet, like mocrosoft, but are unaware of the tools that can help them, like free text to speech. We need to present all the ways that equity can happen so that they and their teachers are aware.

I plan on introducing to my adminstration the need for training on the interactive boards that will go into classroom next year. The training is basically how to use it and a little on how to make a technologically interactive instructional lesson. I want to maeka set plan to introduce the areas to cover. Many of our teachers are interventionists and not content specialists. So helping them to figure out that they need to first understandthe material, standars, and then decide what technology is needed to enhance and support their students.

I want to also post charts about infringement around our building, with broken down ones where the students work. These charts will clarify what can be used and how to give credit.

The other has to do with equity. We need to help the student to understand why cyber bullying is wrong and needs to be stopped. We can't physically stop them outside of school, so they need to be able to monitor themselves before assigning the same task. The task can be the same but the support needs to be different. and others.

The teachers need to make sure that there is equity of use as we deal with students from different backgrounds. The gap is widening and we need to make sure that teachers determine the prior skill level and knowledge that the students come with

My overall goal will be to design training, on the internet, and then set up follow up conferences to clarify ideas.
